A Walk Through A Burned Home

The Flaming Forest RP1-2

You walk through a charred and scared forest. The embers of a previous fire, just dwindling. You have heard of this land. where fires are a constant hassle for the few creatures that live there. Where one wolf pack survives in the shadows of fallen trees. For them, the fires are just a way of life, they know where to go and where to be.

Two will stand in center, prideful and beautiful in their own way. It is to them you will look, to them you will ask, and to them you will be thankful. They will lead you to victory, to new heights to places of safety from the intense heat. They will accept you, oh hopeful member. And they will make this place the only home you need.

The embers of the previous fire were dying out as the dark furred blue eyed male padded cautiously through the forest. Careful not to kick up any fading sparks of fire unto the quiet lands. The animals would return in a few days but for now, all was quiet, but for the loan wolf walking on hardened paws.

He was looking for someone, a female. The one who ruled this land beside him. Their pack was small, consisting for the time being of just the two, but like the animals always coming back. Others were drawn to these woods, despite their terror and hardships.

This wolf went by Heath, son of a monster a a female to in love to notice. Now he was a leader of his own, and determined to forget his family. His blue eyes carefully searched for his coywolf leader. He was not a fan of the half breed, she was too manipulative for his taste, but she made a great leader beside him. their personalities matched enough that they worked well together even if he found her to be a minx.

They had separated during the previous fire, not that he worried, she knew this land almost as well as he. And he was sure she had found safety, now just to find her. He let up a howl that would let her know where he was at least.

Staring at the blackened forest, the female frowned. Her paws were at the place where green became charred. The edge of the fire's reach. Sighing, she glanced toward the land. Fires were often there, and she was sure that the ash and smoke did more damage to her lungs, and to her partner's lungs, than she cared to think about.

Feeling out of place in the vibrant, life-filled land, the otherwise healthy looking female moved onto the charred earth. From her time there, her paws had hardened to the feel of broken and prickly ground, so she hardly gave it a thought as tiny nicks were formed. Not far before her, she could make out the form that would be her partner in leadership over this land. Seeing him, a broad grin broke out on her face. He was being cautious (which made sense - he was rather brutish and heavy pawed) about the potential of another fire kicking up, but with the earth so charred, she doubted that there would be anything left for it to feed on.

Actually, the land was still warm. Not that it bothered her. "I see that you made it out of that one alive," she greeted warmly. This coy wolf was not fond of death, even if she had brought it on more occasion than one. And, after all, without Heath there to be her partner in crime leadership, Esoli was sure that she would be full of captivating words and no actions to set a foundation for them. She was sure that she was not under any sort of category of fondness to her partner, but really, romance only got in the way of leadership.

At least, that's what she had been told.

The female's nostrils flared as she inhaled the harsh scent of the dying fire. Fear started to rise up in her, causing her fur to stand on end as memories of a similar forest fire flashed by her mind. Though the fire here was not more than some burning coals, the female, who's coat was a bright red like the heat of the flames itself, did not want to travel further through the burnt out land. She did not wish to see the charred bodies of those who could not escape the flames.

From the looks of things the fire over the land had been a severe one, just like the one she had escaped about a year ago. It was then the feeling of intense loneliness enveloped her. She had not found a true home since then either...

Suddenly the female heard a howl from inside the fire burnt land. Lifting her head with ears perked to listen, she wondered what a wolf was doing in there. They did not sound hurt or dying, merely calling so she knew she need not worry about them. However she was curious as to why they would be howling after the fire. Perhaps they were calling, hopeful for some family or pack to still be alive.

Knowing there was a wolf nearby, hopefully one to offer some company, the female swallowed her fear. She began making her way slowly through the glowing coals. Her paws tread carefully, keeping well away from where small flames still flicked, doing all they could not to die out. The flamy wolf's white legs were soon covered in dark ash, and she hoped there was some water around because she did not wish to need to lick them clean herself later.

It wasn't long before she saw two wolves through the blackened trunks of the trees. The forest now devoid of ground cover meant that she spotted them while still some distance away. The female paused, not really knowing if she should intrude. Standing where she was she watched, not realising how noticeable her red coat was against the black surroundings.

Heath lowered his head, having not brought it down from his howl. He was just looking at the now clear sky, when Esoli appeared before him. He had to admit that for a Coy-wolf, she was attractive. But not his type, in fact he did not know what his type was, but he was not willing to find out. Much like Esloi's thoughts love complicated things.

"Of course I made it out alive, did you expect something different?" It was not a threat merely the banter they shared, no matter how odd. "So where did you hide this time?" He had left the forest for the one river that flowed through the territory. No matter how hot it got the water was the best place for him, and being a strong swimmer and could survive for hours if need be. Yet it seemed she always had a new place.

his eyes moved to something behind the female, worried that another fire had sprung up. Upon closer look, he realized it was not a fire, just a very red wolf, a fiery wolf. "Well hello." He stepped form his co-leader and tilted his head to better catch the females word.

Laughing at Heath's question, Esoli shook her head. "After all the fire's that have ravaged this place? Of course I expected you to survive!" she responded light-heartedly. When Heath seemed to become distracted by something else, though, Esoli turned to view a fiery russet female. Well, she fits in she thought without the slightest hint of sarcasm. Her smile faltered only slightly at the disruption, but as the russet female had not said anything, Esoli figured that she really couldn't be blamed. After all, she looked as though she had no intentions of intruding.

And Heath had howled. Go figure she thought, rolling her eyes skyward. For once, she would let Heath do the talking. As much as she liked to talk, she knew that he had to get some things done as well. So, in a gesture of welcoming, Esoli dipped her head and gave her tail a slight wag.

The female's ears went back as the male spoke to her. Silently she chastised herself for being so visible. Stepping forward, her dark ears flicked forward. The female beside him also nodded in greeting. Lowering her head slightly, the flamy female moved to stand close to the pair.

"Hello," she greeted, glancing between the wolves. She shuffled her paws, not really sure what to do next. "Um, looks like it was a bad fire here huh?"

A unique coloured wolf padded through the burnt forest. His pelt was covered in ash and was now instead of a golden blondish colour, a silvery grey. And not only that his pelt was discoloured but his nose was acting up and he couldn't help but continue to sneeze. He had looked at all the burned trees and brush, and thankfully hadn't come across anything that was a charred or roasted animal.

His ears perked as a howl rose in the air. Other wolves were here? Garrett, as the wolf was called, had been alone for quite some time. He licked his lips in anticipation. Had he even remembered how to communicate? His ears flicked as he proceeded forth. His paws were slightly scolded from the embers and hot coals. But nothing compared to the pain that he had suffered in his past. Garrett gave a growl. He hated his past.

He really wished that there was some water around. He could clean himself up and just lay in the liquid and just plain enjoy himself. He gave a huff. Perhaps the wolves could direct him to water? Yes. That would be what he'd do. He gave a shake of his pelt and headed to where the howl had came from. His muscles tensed and his gait was stiff, as if he had been laying down for too long. To be honest the golden brute was anxious of coming into contact with them. Not for fear of being hurt, but for lack of his conversation skills.

Three wolves came into view. Well one was distinct to be a half breed, the second a brown/blackish wolf - a male. And the third a red, white and black female. The pelt seemed familiar but Garrett dismissed it quickly. He trotted up to the boldly, not to caring if they were in deep conversation or not.
" Hey, any of you know where water is 'round here " he barked sharply as he stood before the three, tail curling up over his back, swaying side to side, friendly but ready for action should he need it.

Zayne stumbled onto a land that was being destroyed by burning ashes. He was amazed by the power of fire, and wanted to get a closer look, but knew if he did, he could risk being burning or get more serious injuries. The young, thin male looked around with his sharp yellow eyes, seeing if he could find another wolf, or just another animal in this place.

Zayne's eyes weren't the great to begin with, which made this searching for anyone more difficult. He was getting frustrated, not only because he couldn't find or see anyone, but the scent of the smoke was burning his nostrils and hurting his eyes even more. Zayne felt like he was going in circles, but had to keep searching.

Heath chuckled as the new female replied. "There is always a fire here. As soon as the green returns something cause another fire. In these lands you learn to live with it." It would sound crazy then that two wolves had wanted to make a home here, but no one said that he and Esoli were sane. The male sneezed at that as a stray piece of ash got sucked into his noes. Turning his head that dark male spotted the other just before he spoke.

"Hey, any of you know where water is 'round here " He cocked his head thinking about how to answer. What was precious here, the constant fires made it a very dry wasteland, yet the one source of water, the river, never seemed to run dry. Yet Heath was a cautious wolf, and not one to wast. "Depends on who is asking" His smile lighten his harsh sounding words, though he did not intend to be rude, simply stating that water was precious.

Enat's brow furrowed as the male said there was always a fire there. Why did they stay if fires continued to eat the land? Wouldn't it be safer to leave, find somewhere better? Somewhere there would be prey to eat and grass for the prey?

Following the dark male's gaze she saw the other male too. The way he spoke sounded like he was not from these lands either. The female stayed where she was, watching the male's response to the new wolf. The answer he gave was most certainly not the answer the other would have wanted. Curious she wondered he was up to.

Looking back over to the new male she noticed a lighter colour beneath the ash. For now though she couldn't really tell what it was.

Garrett looked at the male. He gave a huff, sitting down, tail curling by his side. His eyes glance to the female that was of red, white and black. Why did she seem so familiar. He gave another internal shrug. " Well Sir. " his tongue rolled over the 'sir' rather sharply and slight frustration lingered in his voice as he said it.

" My name is Garrett. I trust you can see that my pelt is not of the colour it is supposed too. This ash is driving me insane with itching. And I am parched, and dehydrated. I need water " he sighed deeply as he panted. He stood again to shake the ash from his pelt and itch his neck.

As things seemed to settle, another wolf or two came onto the scene. Esoli's eyes trilled over the has-coated male as he questioned about water. Heath gave a cautious answer that mirrored her own thoughts, but when the sooty male gave his rebuttal, Esoli could hardly help it. A short laugh began, and in attempt to hide it, she wound up snorting (somewhat unattractively).

To hide that, Esoli sneezed. Fortunately, it wasn't a forced sneeze, but she did so loathe the face that was made before a sneeze. "Take a good, long look at these lands, stranger," she coaxed easily. The hostility or caution that might be in another's voice were absent in hers as she spoke with warmth and a sweetness that was like subdued honey. "What water we have here is precious and scarce, thanks to the fire, and judging by Heath's appearance, it's probably not the safest thing to drink, either." The little light-hearted stab at Heath had been an attempt to remove hostility from the situation, but the cot wolf was uncertain on how well that worked.

Eyes scanning the foliage, Esoli thought she saw another figure approaching, and became fixated on that figure, trying to figure out what it was and if it was in any sort of danger. If it was a threat to them, she would take care of it. If not, then she would let things fall.

Zayne was getting tired of walking . The heat off of these burning ashes and trees was making him hot and loosing his concentration. He really needed to get a drink of water and fast. As he kept walking, it only got worse. The feeling of going in circles made him nauseous and he was hallucinating.

All he saw when he looked around was thick, dark, black smoke that was clogging his throat and making it harder to breathe. Never had he felt like he wanted to die. 'I will get out of this soon and get the drink that I need.' Zayne thought to himself, with his tongue hanging half way out of his mouth.

Heth looked back at his alphaess with a semi seething glare. He was not truly mad at her, just Mildly annoyed. He was, unlike most males, particular about how his pelt was. which was another odd reason as to why he was living in a constantly dirty place.

"I suppose if you really need it, I can take you to our river. But Esoli is right, it will be ash filled at this moment, but i suppose it is better than nothing. Esoli, be nice to the female, keep her company, I know that is such a burden to you." He sent a barb back to her and tapped the ash covered male on the shoulder, leading the way pack to the river, his paws stepping over hot spots as they went.

Esoli's shoulders squared indignantly as Heath responded. "Well, maybe the water wouldn't be so sooty if you hadn't used it as a hiding place," she muttered, ears laying backward slightly. Looking at the female that she had been told to keep the company of, the coy wolf grinned. "I won't bite you, dear," she greeted, attempting to be friendly.

Frowning with her gaze in the direction of Heath's retreating form, Esoli shook her head. She was certain that the male had problems with her, but the ideas of what she could do with it were slim in her mind, as she saw nothing wrong with what it was that she was doing. "Heath may make me sound like a big meanie head, but really, I'm not," she explained, gaze skyward. The smoke had thinned out into the air, but Esoli was not so sure that they were yet safe. After spending so much time in this land, she had known how quickly the fires lifted from the smoldering ashes and into the full out blazes that she and Heath had survived together more than once.

One might think he would be at least a little more grateful to have me here she thought bitterly. I know I am. Alone, the pair faced more danger from fire than they did together. After all, two noses were better than one, and they hardly ever noticed the acrid reek of fire at the same time. Shaking her head, the slim female felt her heart sink. While she might not have a romantic interest in the male, she knew that they needed each other for survival, so his sensitivity to her pointing things out - like the fact that he was wet - was a point for constant frustration for the female.

Enat stayed silent as the male conversed with the pair about water. It ended well enough with the dark male taking the lighter male, who had introduced himself as Garrett, off to water, leaving her with the female. The dark one had addressed her as Esoli.

The flamy female gave Esoli a small smile as she was spoken to. "Well a good thing I don't judge wolves without getting to know them first." Still though she didn't let herself sit down. She didn't feel like getting her rump and tail covered in soot too, her legs were bad enough as it was being now grey instead of white due to the ash.

She wondered what was to happen when the males came back anyway. Did the pair that live their have a pack, or was it just them? Would she be able to stay, or would she even want to? Enat was not sure, biting her lip in slight confusion.

Esoli was glad to hear the response from the fiery female. Still, she seemed uncomfortable at the moment, which made Esoli wonder what could be bothering her. "So," she said in attempt to fill the air. Then it occurred to her - she had no idea what this female's name was. "What's your name, stranger?" she asked, trying to keep the kind front up as long as she could manage. It wasn't too difficult, as she was usually nice, but Heath was a troublesome sport, and Esoli was not fond of some thoughts that he aroused in her.

Smiling at the pretty russet female, Esoli sat down. She really did not mind the soot and ash that much anymore. However, she did sit with her weight shifted to the left. Her right hip as still sore from the previous escapade, as she discovered while sitting down. Teeth grinding against one another, she settled in, hoping that the bright eyed stranger would do the same.

Garrett looked at the male. Hrmph. He had gotten his way. He gave a small pant and looked back to the tri-toned female and the one the male had called Esoli. He then turned and padded after the male, heading for the river.

Garrett avoided the still burning ashes like, well fire. He wasn't a great fan of them nor the smell that was coming from them.
" So do you live here, with Esoli? " he asked plainly trying to start a conversation with the male, to keep the two from an awkward moment that could occur.

Enat's dark ears flicked toward Esoli. She suddenly felt so rude, here ears falling back against her head in silent apology. How had she forgotten to tell of her name? "My name, yes, it's Enat."

Still she stood not wanting to get the ash over her coat more than it already had. Yet she was tiring of standing. Giving in with a sigh she moved to sit down, wrapping her tail in a curl around her side in an effort to keep it out of the soot.

Turning her attention back to Esoli, she asked, "So... you live here huh? Are fires often?"

Moon Runner paused at the edge of the forest. Her head tilted to one side as she studied the burning ground. 'This is it.' she thought. It was the territory of the dancing flames pack. The multi-coloured fae tilted her head back and let out a howl seeking permission to enter the flaming forest.

Heath walked in silence. He knew he should not be so hard on Esoli, and he really didn't hate her, he found her mildly annoying, like most females. But he didn't hate her, she just reminded him of everything he had left behind, thus she got all the feelings he felt towards his parents. Which was unfair of him.

He was called from his thoughts by the wolf beside him. Heath had almost forgotten the other male was there. "Yes Esoli and I live here together, as leaders, though we don't have members, this land is ours. Only we would be crazy enough to live here." He replied keeping it short an to the point.

He kept walking for a bit, unsure of what to talk about, he only ever talked with Esoli, so he was not the best at conversation. It was then he heard the howl. Months they had spent here and not a soul had shown up and now wolves were coming? Didn't seem right but Heath lifted his head and let a howl come through telling the wolf he or she was allowed into his and Esoli's land.

Enat. What a fitting name. Esoli kept her conversational appearance as she mulled over the ideas of what there was to do now. "Well, Enat, it's quite nice to meet you," she responded. But, when the russet female asked her question about the fire, all that the coy wolf could do was nod her head. "Yes, fire is something that we face often here," she admitted.

But there is so much worse that we can face that we do not the thought, heart sinking into the dark recesses of her past. Be glad that the fire is the only thing that threatens us. Then, suddenly, Esoli felt as though the earth was slipping from below her paws. It was like the ground had crumbled, leaving her only room to flail her limbs, and yet, she did not move. It was all in her head.

When reality slammed back, Esoli gave an obvious jolt and shook her head to clear it. These flashbacks are getting really annoying she thought, more than a little upset by their imperfect timing. But, a howl rose over the air, and the female gave a sigh of relief. Things to keep her mind busy. "So, what do you say, want to join the pack?"
